Trees, Seeds and Forests
Overview of Learning Experience
We have many activities related to the forests surrounding Chiang Mai. All are hands-on experiences which can be adapted to suit specific age-groups and specific learning needs.
Seed dispersal, germination and healthy forests.
For this topic we can introduce students to the massive variety of trees in the forests of Thailand. We can explore how different seed types are dispersed and how seed dispersal relates to forest bio-diversity. We can collect seeds and walk in the forest and students can learn how to extract and plant different seed species. We can investigate threats to bio-diversity and how targeted tree-planting can contribute to the redevelopment of healthy forest eco-systems. For a longer program, we advise and support regarding rewilding projects and the creation of small bio-diverse mini-forests.
Trees, biodiversity and ecosystems
Within this topic, we can explore many different things. We can investigate different forest ecosystems and students can discover the differences between different types of forests that grow in different environmental conditions. We can support students to conduct species surveys and examine the impacts of different environmental conditions on the forest ecosystems. Students can explore the impacts of altitude, drainage, and fire on forests; learning how these factors help to shape the forest. Students can also explore relationships between different living things within the forest; uncovering aspects of the complex web of living things in the forest.
