Water and Landscapes
Overview of Learning Experience
Using a working stream table to model how water moves towards the ocean and shapes the landscapes it passes through, children can have the opportunity to understand this fascinating dynamic process.
We can supplement this with trips to take detailed observations of actual landscapes, comparing our model with reality.
Making a model river
We have a stream modelling table which students can use to explore many different aspects of water hydrology. The can observe and interact with the processes of erosion and deposition in a stream. We can demonstrate the effects of gradient, flow level and human impact. We can work closely with teachers to help demonstrate specific concepts based around specific learning objectives.
Looking at landscapes shaped by water
The area in which our learning center is situated are small foothills. There are many landforms which are regognisably shaped by water. We can show you steep valleys carved by seasonal streams and also mini canyons in which we can clearly demostrate watershed hydrology. Combining observations of the real landscape with observations gained on the stream table is an excellent way of reinforcing understanding.
